DAY OUT - HELEN FROM POLLY POOTLES AND POLLY PICTURES

Hi there! This is one of my last blogs before Christmas and I'm happy to finish the year with this sunny set of images!
I first met Helen at the Photography Parlour get together event back in June. Helen is the proud owner of Pootle - classic Volkswagen VW wedding Beetle, as well as the photographer behind Polly Pictures. We've been keeping in touch and recently arranged to meet up for a fun day out of shooting and chatting. I must say, despite the fact that it was freezing outside, I enjoyed our day a lot! It was sunny, the light was beautiful and the company was fab! It was great to talk about photography and business, and learn from each other while shooting. Looking forward to our next venture!
Without further ado - introducing Helen:

GRATEFUL

2010 in a way has been a crazy year for me. My husband and I moved to London from Ireland at the beginning of the year. Michael went to school in London, but for me it was a totally unknown place. I had to learn my way around and I didn't know anyone... I mean I didn't know a single soul in the city apart from my hubby. I made a sort of 'London resolution', I decided to do things that were out of my comfort zone, and I went out there. I put myself out there and started to share my life with the online world. I am so thankful for the existence of Twitter. Honestly, whoever invented it - is a genius! I met so many like-minded people online, who I also met in real life. It's been amazing! I've met people who live near me, people who I have common interests with, people from the wonderful world of weddings, people who just get me. Thank you to everyone for your support and friendship. I am so so grateful.
I am grateful for my clients who I met this year and whose weddings I've photographed and will photograph in 2011. Thank you guys for believing in me and trusting me to capture your beautiful special days. I've truly been blessed with my couples.
Big massive huge thank you to my wonderful husband. He is my rock and he supports me in every way. I don't know if I'd be where I am now without him. He is my best friend, my business advisor - my everything! I love it when he gives me constructive criticism which I don't accept at first (I have to stand my ground, obviously!), but then I take a step back and realise that he is actually right, he-he. :-)
Yeah, 2010 has been a great year, and I'm looking forward to what 2011 brings. I have so many great ideas and plans, so stayed tuned! ;-)
Here is a selection of photos from some of the weddings I've photographed and of people I've met, enjoy ))

MODERN VINTAGE WEDDING IDEAS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS' SHOOTSWAP

A couple of weeks ago I got a message from a fellow photographer and graphic designer Fanni Williams about joining her and Lisa for a shoot swap with a difference. Fellow photographers, cameras, photo taking, difference - count me in! The idea behind the shoot was to wear 1940s/1950s vintage style outfits, photograph each other and items that can be used for table decorations, while enjoying an afternoon tea in Bake-a-BooWest Hampstead bake shop and tea room. I must say I've never had a traditional afternoon tea before and I definitely thought I haven't owned a vintage style outfit! I loved what the girls came up with because it was something completely different for me and I wanted to try it! I looked around the house and found some old books, a vase, silver jewellery box (a wedding gift from my friend) and my grandmother's ring. I also bought some flowers from Tesco that could add some prettiness to our table. Girls invited Aline Borduqui - a make-up artist based in London, who also did a fantastic job with our hair. So, here we go, the start of our day:

Here is how I put the flowers together (simple flower combination with a bright accent, a white jug, a crystal vase, and a few coloured ribbons can go a long way!) :

Here is how we arranged it all on our table. Fanni brought an old binocular which I thought fitted in with our theme perfectly!

And some Bake-a-Boo yummy treats:
